Today marks the one-year anniversary of Nikolas's first marathon! One year later, over $20,000 has been raised providing new warm coats to more than 1,000 children in need!!! We think it's been a pretty great year! Thank you all so much for making this possible.
Nikolas is so thankful for the ability to do something he loves that helps others, for so much support and encouragement from all of YOU, for his amazing family, and for his sweet little fur ball, Cosmo.
Happy Veterans Day! Thank you for your sacrifices. Nikolas and his dad today enjoyed a wonderful Veterans Day celebration hosted by Nikolas's school.
Photographer Seth Kushner came to photograph Nikolas for an upcoming article in Sports Illustrated Kids! Thanks, Seth, and his assistant, Kathleen, for coming out. Nikolas had such a great time! We really appreciate SI Kids sharing Nikolas's story
We love TOMS! Nikolas is featured on their community blog. Thanks so much for sharing Nikolas's story - you guys are awesome! Oh, by the way, he's running the world in his TOMS Eyewear! Check it out:
Nikolas had an awesome weekend beginning with the Runner's World running event. He was so lucky to meet amazing and inspiring people like the Boston Marathon race director, David McGillivray, Altra Founder Golden Harper—this year's RW event sponsor—author Scott Douglas, and others who were full of support and encouragement for Nikolas's efforts. And of course, it's always great to see "Uncle" Bart Yasso, RW Chief Running Officer—he always greets Nikolas with a smile and kind words.
Today Nikolas participated in his first 5k race walk and he did a fantastic job! When he arrived at the competition, he met Max, a friendly dog and his owner, who was very kind. When she learned about Nikolas's effort to help kids in need, she immediately dug into her pocket and gave a donation to Nikolas! Another wonderful person helping to keep children warm!
Do you remember the weekly reader magazine in elementary school? Well, Nikolas is featured in this week's 4th grade edition of Scholastic! He's included in an article that questions whether children are too young to run long distances. But as far as Nikolas's segment goes, it's all positive—he's very happy, very healthy, and helping lots of kids too! Check it out: http://sni.scholastic.com/SN4/10_07_13_SN4/book#/4
This is Mary. Nikolas met Mary this weekend at the Bird-In-Hand Half Marathon. They ran together for a little bit during the race. She asked Nikolas to sign her bib number, saying he is such an inspiration and he is doing such a wonderful thing: running to help others! Thanks, Mary! Nikolas hopes to run with you again.
Nikolas had a great time at the Bird-In-Hand Half Marathon this weekend. He had so much fun starting off the runners at the race and speaking (and eating s'mores) the night before! Thanks for the invitation, Mr. Smucker! This race is so wonderful and they have the most unique awards—last year it was a plaque with road apples on it (for real!) and this year, a horseshoe. So cool!
